Canvas & Accommodation Resources
Extending Time on Canvas Quizzes and Exams
Students with approved testing accommodations may need additional time on Canvas quizzes and exams.
Add Extended Time for a Student
- Open the course in Canvas and select Quizzes.
- Select the quiz or exam.
- Select Moderate This Quiz.
- Locate the student who needs extended time.
- Select the Edit (pencil) icon next to the student’s name.
- Enter the additional time approved for the student.
- Select Save.
Adjust Due Dates and Availability for a Student
Faculty may also need to adjust the availability window or due date for an individual student.
- Open the course in Canvas and select Quizzes.
- Select the quiz or exam.
- Select Edit.
- At the bottom of the page, select + Assign To.
- Enter the student’s name in the Assign To field.
- Adjust the available dates, due date, or availability window as needed.
- Save the changes.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
The Office of Faculty Excellence (OFE) has curated resources for self-guided learning about Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Faculty can learn about principles and strategies that help create flexible and accessible learning experiences for students. Faculty may also sign up to attend a UDL Workshop or schedule a UDL Consultation.
